My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
First a few words about Ben Jacobs: he’s a thoroughly decent sort, the kind of reporter who respectfully asks questions but doesn’t back down. He was doing a follow up with the Republican Candidate running to fill Zinke’s House seat. That Republican, Greg Gianforte has been putting off responding to reporters questions about the health care bill until he got a CBO score. The score came out today, when Jacobs asked him for a response it very much sounds like Gianforte grabbed his recorder, body slammed him, broke his glasses and pummeled the guy while screaming at him.

For a bit of context, Jacobs recently wrote a story in the Guardian detailing Gianforte’s financial ties to a Russian Index Fund that includes Gasprom and Rosneft.

The election in Montana is TIGHT. The Democrat Rob Quist stands a real chance. Gianforte is trying to spin this as if Jacobs is to blame (hey it worked for Lewendowski!), but there may be video and the audio alone seems to belie that claim.
2Gianforte is the new crop of politicians, taking their cues from Our Great Orange Bully Leader.
I am watching this election because I am curious how Montana’s voters stack up.

FWIW, campaign workers are going door to door in Montana playing the tape of the assault.
If Gianforte won’t answer a reporter’s question, what makes Montana voters think he will answer their questions?

6Cheryl, you are correct, in the past two weeks, reporters have been arrested, pinned against a wall, and now body slammed — all for trying to ask a question. The Committee to Protect Journalists is now listing the US as a dangerous place for journalists.

Greg is frustrated. What should have been an easy win, has become a lot of work and expensive. Now Greg has turned to physical violence because of his frustrations.

11Possibly it is time for a nation-wide Assault Offenders registration and database to index these guys who exhibit the temper control of an 18-month old and assault others when things don’t go their way.
12Politicians shouldn’t have to beat up journalists. Why get their hands dirty?
Fortunately, Trump is forming the Sturmabteilung to take that little task out of the hands of politicians. Also really convenient for handling protestors. You saw the beginnings of that at his rallies: “just get him out of here!”
13Micr @12 nailed it. What the heck has happened to our civilization?!? Apparently civilized discourse has died, and it’s okay to assault anyone you find inconvenient. Trump and his toadies have turned violence into a virtue. This news story truly horrified me — I guess we’ll see how Montana voters respond.
14A woman making anti Muslim comments in a VA supermarket to the victim of her verbal assault that “now we have trump. We can say what we want to you”. She was video taped and asked to leave. The vid went viral. I wonder if the speaker knew how horribly ugly her face was. Her ugly face reflected her ugly words. Very fitting.
15And the Rethugs will simply comment that their boy will simply not be the one and only to be sworn in from a jail cell. They will point to places like Louisiana, a state that seems to keep a jail cell tidy just for its politicians. then there is Illinois. And Massachusetts. You get the idea. But here’s the thing. Those Rethugs seem to be proud of the whole idea. Their mammas never slapped them enough across the Bee-hind!
